Larger Format, Higher Resolution
Anyone with a few bucks can buy a disposable panoramic camera. But to create a wall-size image with deep, pointillistic detail, you need a company with experienced craftsmen. The process starts with a carefully placed top-of-the-line tripod. Next, knowing how to take a series of shots to maximize color, contrast and sharpness. And then the know how to combine all of the exposures into one big eye-popping sweep of color and light.
Photogrfx360 is such a company. We know how to produce a mural sized mountain scene with such precision that you can almost feel a bracing breeze. We have the capability to create photographs with extremely high resolution. Using a 36-megapixel cameras for panoramic photography there is a enough resolution for very large images. Images of this sized are used on the sides of semi truck trailers or billboards. Zooming deeply into our scans does not mean losing detail.
Engineering an Image
Accurate panoramic photography is a process of engineering an image. For architecture and urban planning the subject matter can be shown in context with its surroundings. In landscape photography you are not restricted to just what is covered in your viewfinder. Another aspect of the process is matching the right focal length to the subject. In the case of capturing a photograph of a site that is so large you would have to be quite a ways away to see all of it. Furthermore the process might require using a 100 – 200mm lens and indexing the lens to shoot in 5 – 20 degree increments. Additionally it is best to have a 1/3 – 1/4 overlapping of the images.
In conclusion the best results are achieved by having a perfectly level camera. Finally the parallax has to be removed. This allows for a perfect stitch between images. The final result can be an image well over a 1000 MB or a giga-pixel panorama, AKA “gigapan”.
